Imagination serves us in various areas. We can state that we cannot imagine our lives, not even an hour, without imagination. Let me give some clarity to you on the above statement. In whatever the situation you are, your brain gets activated and makes a picture of that situation in visual format. This is stated as visualisation and this visualisation when done in the field translates into imagination. And I expect you to agree with the statement I brought up in the first line. If you still doubt it let me bring an example. For suppose you are at work and it will be late for your home and your lovely son who will be home soon after finishing his school will create a menace at the home. This entire thought will run in your brain not as lines I wrote but as visuals that you are capable of! So, by now you would be admitting my statement.
Let me bring the main content before you. Though we already agreed that we live with imaginations, do you think the area imagination is serving in is going to help us evolve? We imagine every situation of our past and call them memories. We imagine how we need our future to be? And call it hope. We imagine our expected happenings of present day and call them wishes.
But among these, the real imagination which is needed and which helps us improve our IQ and evolving is lost.
The real imagination is thinking to make the impossible possible. Here, my dear Juliets and Romeos, I am not talking about your crush coming to you and proposing to you by going down on his / her knees. Please come out of fantasies. In our day to day activities, when we find it difficult to do a particular task, we think of some machines or some stuff that makes it easy to do that task. Creation or innovating something is the original purpose of imagination.
All the present infrastructure and gadgets which we enjoy are derived from such imaginations. And, have you ever thought why there are many PhD candidates in our society, but only 2-3% of them are innovating or changing lives? This is because of the lack of imagining power in the required area. In schools and colleges they teach the facts and keep projecting videos, rather than helping the students imagine what the letters in a book are trying to do to them.
We are not opposing the usage of the latest technology but at the place of teaching, we should prefer conventional method at least for schools up to tenth standard. After teaching them in conventional methods we can show them the visuals so that they can find the difference between their imaginary visuals and the visuals we show them. Hope you understood my intention. I know that you will bring up that there would be not enough time to teach two times. But look at this side: what is the use of the videos if there is no quality?
Even us, we prefer watching a movie over reading a book, and add a silly reason saying “I am saving my valuable time!” Oh God! Do you really think so? You are dragging your imagination to the worst and after doing so, does it matter even if you have plenty of time?
So, I would like to suggest every parent and teacher, please give children tasks which take their imagination power to new heights. For instance, narrate a story to them and ask them to draw a picture to deliver the story you narrated or show them a picture and ask them to narrate a story with that. For sure that will make us laugh listening to the silly stories that children will bring up but it is a very good exercise to their brain. There are many games / tasks which can increase your imagination power. We will try to bring all such games in front of you in our further articles. And also to all the citizens out here in the society, when you find time please make reading as a habit and play games which improves your imagination.
Imagination is the foundation of innovation. Imagination brings out creativity. Again don’t forget that your imagination depends on the thought process which basically depends on your surroundings and situations / phases of life one goes through. Anyways that will always rest in our will and can be developed by various practices.
